Shattered Dreams

The waiting was agonising

The patience was challenging

But the hopes were high

The path was conveniently paved out for us

We thought we stood a good chance

Of reaching out for the stars

Of riding high upon the rainbows

But, alas

There were no stars illuminating the dark sky

There were no rainbows adorning the grey horizon

There were no birds singing us their praises

Just an eerie silence

We understood the implication

It was devastating

It was so terribly painful

There was no way we could argue our case

We just had to swallow it

The whole bitter reality

Dare we to dream again?
